Team Hellas Stays Hot with a Win over Switzerland, Sets Sights on Denmark

Team Greece continued its impressive run at the 2026 WBSC Europe U-22 Women's Softball Championship with a commanding 18-5 victory over Switzerland on July 22nd. The win improves Team Greece to 2-0 in the placement round, setting up a matchup with Denmark as Greece looks to remain strong through the final days of the tournament.


Greece wasted little time taking control of the game, scoring six runs in the opening inning before adding four runs in each of the next three frames. Team Greece finished with 18 runs on 15 hits, producing 16 RBIs while receiving contributions from throughout the lineup.


Georgia Polydoros paced the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance that included a home run, a triple, three RBIs, four runs scored and a walk. Sophia Vlahos also had a standout day, going 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.


Sophie Pappas continued her hot tournament at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, while Sylvia Mudis added two hits, including a triple, drove in two runs, scored three times and drew a walk.


The offense remained balanced from top to bottom. Kirsten Malasky went 2-for-2 with two doubles, an RBI, three runs scored and two walks, Selina Psarras collected a hit, drove in two runs and scored twice, Kasey Xenidis added two hits, Chloe Trimandilis recorded a hit and scored a run, and Alessandra Iliakis drove in a run.


In the circle, Sophia Vlahos earned the victory after pitching three innings, allowing four runs while striking out three. Kasey Xenidis closed the game with a scoreless relief appearance, allowing one run over the final inning while striking out three.


The victory showcased Greece's balanced attack, combining timely hitting, aggressive baserunning and dependable pitching as Team Greece continued to build momentum in the placement round.

Now, Greece turns its attention to Denmark for the next contest.


Team Hellas enters the contest atop the placement-round standings with a 2-0 record, while Denmark is searching for its first victory. Greece has found its offensive rhythm over the last two games, scoring 30 runs while consistently receiving production throughout the lineup.
